Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born March 22, 1976) is an American actress. The recipient of various accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she is regularly ranked among the top actresses paid in the world. Time magazine named her one of the top 100 influential people in the world in both 2006 and 2015 and Forbes listed her as one of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2021 and 2019. Forbes declared her the World's Richest Actress in 2021. Her net worth is estimated to be $400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in the year 1991 as a teenager. In 1999, she appeared as a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions and played the role of Tracy Flick in Election. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001), as well as its sequel in 2003 brought her greater recognition. She also starred in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) the romantic comedy. She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a slump in her career during which Water for Elephants (2011) was her only box-office hit, Witherspoon decided to make an appearance and produced and play Cheryl Strayed, the drama Wild (2014). These include Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show which is an Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first episode. She also produced the adaptations to film of Gone Girl (2014) as well as Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing business and is involved in advocacy organizations for children and women. She serves on the board of the Children's Defense Fund and was also honored to serve as the chairperson of the Avon Foundation's charity for women's causes in 2007.
